Youth For Christ Cultural Attributes

The following video and series of guided excercises comes from the Youth For Christ Cultural Attributes.  Watch the video and then choose what you would like and email Heidi (heidi@yfcdenver.org) with which exercise (from the Biblical Reflections section below) you chose and what your take-aways are.  Each exercise counts as a training credit.

Presidential Declaration

YFC Culture by Dan Wolgemuth from Youth For Christ USA on Vimeo.

Our cultural attributes are not about competency. Neither are they about efficiency or even organizational alignment. What’s at stake is obedience to the call of Christ on our lives. To become like him. To live a life worthy of him. To reflect him to a dark and tasteless world. At the end of the day, this IS the standard by which we will be measured. As such, we will individually and collectively follow the leading of Jesus, who framed “Do-Instructions” with “Be-Attitudes”. His Be-Attitudes provide the bedrock upon which the wise build their lives, explicitly having to do with…

  • Anger
  • Lust
  • Divorce
  • Oaths
  • Retaliation
  • Relating to our enemies
  • Giving
  • Prayer
  • Fasting
  • Wealth accumulation
  • Worry
  • Judgmentalism
  • Access to God
  • Treatment of others
  • Fruit bearing

The conclusion of his Sermon on the Mount reminds us of what can happen if we engage in “doing” without anchoring our souls in Be-Attitudes that embody Christ the Rock:
”On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:22–23, ESV)

In obedience to God — with organizational solidarity and unity — we declare that we seek to be…

Christ Centered
Biblically calibrated. Missionally focused. Vigorously pursued. Preeminently important.

A Christ Centered life and mission will be marked by…

Enduring Humility
Consistent. Transparent. Resilient. Prayerful.

Relentless Trust
Determined. Generous. Vulnerable. Grace filled.

Joyful Camaraderie
Selfless. Collaborative. Missional. Delighted.

Courageous Faithfulness
Brave. Balanced. Unleashed. Sustainable.

Kingdom Inspired Diversity
Intentional. Authentic. Indigenous. Empowered.

Biblical Reflections

Below are a series of 10 Biblical reflections that can be used to develop the YFC cultural attributes within yourself, your ministry teams, and other teams you may be a part of.

These reflections vary from 30 minutes to 2 plus hours and are designed to be led by a facilitator. They have a variety of resources (games, activities, etc.) integrated with them.  While you can go through them individually and journal your answers, you will find them more effective if you go through them with a group.  Perhaps you have a small group from your church that would enjoy the activity.  Perhaps your YFC ministry site team would enjoy going through one together (you can suggest this to your site leader!).  Perhaps there is another group that would enjoy this reflection activity...
