The vision of Juvenile Justice is to see troubled youth made new through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, being formed into disciple-makers through the intentional, consistent investment of caring members of local church bodies.  JJM seeks to engage young people as they are met in a variety of youth-serving institutions (detention centers, probation, correctional facilities, group homes, residential treatment centers and emergency shelters).  These valued relationships are sustained through ongoing involvement as they reenter their communities.

The Facts

• Approximately 10% of youth between the ages of 10 and 17 are arrested each year in Colorado.
• 10,685 young people were incarcerated in Colorado last year.
• 63.3% of incarcerated youth have had at least 1 previous incarceration.
• Incarcerated youth are ethnically diverse: 42% Caucasian, 38% Hispanic, 16% African American, 3% other and 23% are Female.

The Opportunity

Denver Area Youth For Christ's Juvenile Justice program has the privilege of providing holistic services to Denver’s system involved youth. These services allow our trained volunteers and staff to uniquely walk alongside our youth.

• Mentors are able to step into the lives of youth and relationally be transformed by the connections they make with their mentee.
• Denver Area YFC JJM staff provides transition and aftercare services as youth transition into the community.
• Transition Specialists  help create opportunities and provide resources as our young people learn to reintegrate into society and their neighborhoods.
• Our therapeutic services allow our licensed therapists to clinically understand our young people’s trauma and help cultivate new growth as our youth press forward among their trauma.  

The Need

The only way for an incarcerated youth to truly turn from their life of crime, is through the power and grace of God.

Denver Area YFC Juvenile Justice Ministries creates effective outreach, discipleship, and aftercare programs that forge relationships with youth inside the correctional facilities and continue those relationships as these youth transition back into their communities. Working together with churches, adult volunteers and like minded partners, DAYFC coordinates church services, Bible studies, and special programs, equips mentors and trains volunteers in order to bring the life-transforming message of Jesus Christ to incarcerated and previously incarcerated youth.
