Jill, when you were out of town last week I ran away from the group home with two other girls.

I see that you are back. Tell me what happened? Did you take your daughter along?

‘Callie’ convinced another girl and me to run with her. I took ‘Kate’ with me. We all got on the light rail and went to a park in Lakewood. I called my boyfriend and he was really mad at me for running and taking Kate along. He was afraid I would lose custody of her.

I agree with him being concerned – that could easily happen!

Well, I told him where we were and he insisted that we stay there and he would meet us to make sure we were safe. I knew Callie’s family was involved in sex trafficking but she always insisted she hated that. Then some of her family showed up with a panel van and we realized that Callie had set us up to be picked up by them!!

My boyfriend and the police showed up right then too and the traffickers took off. It turned out my boyfriend had called the police and told them where we were.

I knew I liked him, but how did you feel about him calling the police?

At first I was soooo mad, but then I realized that he had safety for Kate and me as his main concern so now I appreciate what he did. The police took Callie to jail and the rest of us back to the group home.

‘Tina’ I think God protected you and Kate from being picked up by the traffickers! I am so thankful that He protected you. I can only imagine what would have happened if they had succeeded!

I share this story with you because it shows some of the very real and scary issues faced by many of the young moms I minister with. Life is lived on the edge and not only are they at risk, but so are their children.

The Lord used this situation in Tina’s life to show his care and protection and led to some awesome conversations about the Lord!

Thank you for being a part of the ongoing conversation with youth in our city and helping us share God’s story.  It's our honor to be the storytellers on your behalf who meet kids right where they are and give life to their story.

Providing young people in our community with the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus Christ and become part of a local church.
