Dream With Us

It was myself, Uriyah (my son), Derrick (a young man I have been working with at Lookout for the past several years. Derrick has become like my little brother), Derrick's girlfriend (who is also the mother of his 4-year old son), Derrick's best friend (who was at another facility for about a year) and his best friend’s girlfriend. The six of us were having lunch; they reminisced about their experiences together, and we collectively dreamed for what could be...

What could be for their personal lives, what could be for our kids, what could be for their neighborhood, and what could be for our city.

All four of them had to grow up fast; they have seen their fair share of death/violence (they talked about the deaths of a handful of their friends). They have all seen how incarceration, violence, and addiction can/did traumatize their families, and their neighborhood. And while their neighborhood feels infested with these ills, they love this neighborhood, I love this neighborhood, and God loves this neighborhood. And so we continue to dream. We dream and pray for what God wants to do in this city, in these neighborhoods, and in these young peoples’ lives.

All the while at lunch I am thinking to myself, “Why am I so blessed to be in these young peoples’ lives? Why am I so privileged to be at this table with them? Why have they let me in on their lives….?” As YFC staff and volunteers, we have been given the tremendous blessing and privilege of being in the lives of the most incredible kids in the city.

We would love for you to pray about and consider ways in which God has called you to get involved and you yourself be blessed by our young people. Our See the Story events give you an opportunity to physically see the ministry we are a part of. Please consider attending one of these: you can find more information and register here.

Thank you for being a part of the ongoing conversation with youth in our city and helping us share God’s story.  It's our honor to be the storytellers on your behalf who meet kids right where they are and give life to their story.

Providing young people in our community with the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus Christ and become part of a local church.
