“Jill! I was hoping I would see you at this event! I think we should move ahead with our plan to start the teen parent's group at our church!”
“Rudy, it's great to see you! I had on my list to call you today. I've been praying about the timing of our partnership and I think we are supposed to start right away as well!”
I had met Rudy and his wife several months ago when he and his wife and a couple from their church attended a presentation I did about Denver Area YFC's ministry to teen parents. Towards the end, I had mentioned that I felt the ministry was most successful when the support groups and parenting classes were held at a local church. The teen parents feel accepted and start to view it as their church and often start to attend with their extended family.
A year ago Rudy and his wife planted Via-Church in a poor, predominately Hispanic community in SW Denver. Rudy is also leading a drug recovery program at the local public high school and has access to the teen parents there. We all got so excited about how the Lord could use a partnership between us but I wasn't sure about adding more to my schedule. We agreed to pray about it.
Now we had both received confirmation to move forward. But, would we have enough buy-in from the people at his small church to run this ministry effectively? There are a lot of moving pieces – Bible teaching, parenting class, nursery, food, set up, transportation . . . God showed up again and 12-15 people have stepped forward to get involved!!!
Invitations have been sent to teen parents in the area. Pray for the Lord to send us just the right ones! We began with a kick-off baby shower and are now planning to meet twice a month.
Praise God for this new open door to reach more young people and their children!!
Thank you for being a part of the ongoing conversation with youth in our city and helping us share God’s story. It's our honor to be the storytellers on your behalf who meet kids right where they are and give life to their story.
Providing young people in our community with the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus Christ and become part of a local church.
